Alleviates statin-induced myopathy
Statin-induced myopathy means muscle damage or weakness triggered by statin drugs. It can raise creatine kinase, increase oxidative stress, and reduce muscle contractility. In a 30-day rat study, oral quercetin at 50 mg/kg daily reduced serum creatine kinase and oxidative stress while improving gastrocnemius muscle contractility. The treatment also lowered apoptosis markers BAX and caspase-3 and partially normalized autophagy-related gene expression. This suggests quercetin may help protect muscle during statin use, but the evidence is from animals and needs confirmation.
