Improved insulin sensitivity
Increased insulin sensitivity allows the body to use less insulin to transport blood sugar into the cells. In a long-term mouse study, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) prevented the ageing decline in this ability. In the glucose tolerance test, blood insulin levels were lower in the NMN-treated group than in the weight-based control group at 12 months. There was also less fat accumulation in the liver, which corresponds to a decrease in insulin resistance. The effects were dose-dependent and no apparent toxicity was observed.
