Quercetin reduced neuroinflammation and improved memory in a rat model of traumatic brain injury.
Rats given quercetin before a weight-drop brain injury performed better on memory tests and had less neuroinflammation than untreated injured rats. The 15 mg/kg quercetin dose helped restore AMPK signaling and lowered NLRP3 inflammasome components, IL-1β, and TNF-α. Quercetin also reduced oxidative stress and shifted microglial markers toward an anti-inflammatory state, suggesting it may blunt secondary brain injury processes.
